For me, mascara is a true staple of my makeup routine. Whether I’m going for the natural look or going all out; mascara is essential. It lengthens the eyelashes, makes my eyes pop and generally completes my style. Mascara is the perfect product to make me look bright eyed and bushy tailed.
That’s why there’s always multiple in my makeup bag! Having said that, because mascara is so important, choosing a new one is complex. I have to be completely convinced it’s going to achieve the look I want before I invest.
Since I was 13 and first took an interest in makeup, Benefit was my go-to brand. From the bright and funky packaging to the high-quality product, it’s always been a safe bet. My tastes have since expanded and I have a lot of different brands in my collection.
However, you’ll always find a Benefit mascara in my makeup bag. From Bad Gal to They’re Real, I have bought every single Benefit mascara release, and loved every single one. When Roller Lash was released, I was extremely excited to try.
Benefit promised a false eyelash effect from their new mascara. Beauty bloggers from Zoella to Inthefrow were absolutely raving about this mascara. From the incredible press it was receiving to the fact I just love Benefit, I knew I needed Roller Lash. I couldn’t wait to get my hands on this new release – and simply had to place an order.
What Did I Expect?
As previously mentioned, I’ve never been let down by a Benefit mascara. I’m used to a brand that offers me guaranteed quality at a decent price point. The packaging of their products is usually sublime too, making me very excited to receive it.
I was hoping for a stunning end result that would make my lashes long, bouncy and curly. To say I had high expectations would be quite the understatement. There was absolutely no room for error at all with this product! Benefit had big shoes to fill – their own! I was more than confident that they’d be able to step up to the plate.
Receiving The Product
I ordered the product from Debenhams. I’ve always been particularly impressed with the Debenhams selection of makeup. Not only that, but their delivery is impressively quick and always arrives on time. I placed the order with Debenhams online and within a couple of days it was at my doorstep.
The Benefit packaging, as always, didn’t disappoint. I was met with a stunning box in pink, black and silver hues. The words ‘Roller Lash’ were printed on the box in a gorgeous swirling scroll. There’s also lots of adorable stars on the box and a cool jagged diamond edge which makes the product stand out.
The packaging for the actual product itself is pretty special too. The tube is black, thick and has the classic Benefit logo printed on it in pink. There’s also the ‘Roller Lash’ scroll printed across the tube too. The lid is a gorgeous baby pink, in a lovely soft and smooth material and it’s cut with gorgeous diamond shapes.
The mascara wand itself is black, and the tip is a completely unique and curved brush. The brush has a slight dip in the centre, where you’re supposed to roll your eyelashes with the brush as you use the mascara.
The wand is certainly different to anything I’ve ever seen, and the packaging is pretty enough to put on display. So far, so very good!
Health hazard Analysis – Benefit Roller Lash Ingredients
There are 10 ingredients in this product which have a moderate level of hazard. Some of these are pretty low – sitting around a 1 – 3 level of danger or hazard depending on usage. However, there’s one ingredient which registers as a 5. Naturally, I would love for any products I use to be completely free of hazardous ingredients.
Since becoming aware of hazardous ingredients in my beauty products, I’ve made a point of researching each product that I invest in. For a product to have 11 ingredients registering as potentially hazardous is pretty high. Having said that, most of the 11 ingredients actually have a low level of hazard from around 1 – 3, which personally doesn’t concern me that much.
I was happy to proceed with testing the product out and seeing what I thought of the results. However, I will be conscious of the number of ingredients labelled as red flags. If I were to fall in love with the product, I probably wouldn’t be looking to use it every day. I’d hope to rather substitute some days with a product with less hazardous ingredients and do my body as little damage as possibly!
Testing the Benefit Roller Lash Mascara
When I pulled the wand out of the pot I noticed there was a good coating of product on the brush bristles, which is a good sign. Having read a few reviews on the Roller Lash and flicked through the information on the back of the package, I knew what I had to do.
I took the wand up to my eyelashes and slowly curled the lashes up with the wand, pushing it upwards as I went. After one coat, I could instantly see that my eyelashes had started to curl. I applied a few coats in this way, and I can safely say it’s one of the best mascaras I have ever used.
It really lengthens your eyelashes with ease. It also does provide a curl to the lash. The curl isn’t quite enough to stop using eyelash curlers if you want a really full curl, but it’s definitely noticeable compared to other mascaras. The mascara isn’t particularly clumpy and is super smooth to apply. You don’t need many coats and it’s easy to get an even look on both eyes.
Benefit certainly didn’t let me down with this product. I was absolutely amazed by the end result. ‘They’re Real’ their last mascara is an amazing lengthening mascara, but ‘Roller Lash’ adds that curl that makes all the difference in my opinion.
I’ve found myself reaching for this mascara regularly when doing my make up. If I want a look that’s a little more dramatic, I simply add a few extra coats. Simultaneously, keeping it more natural with one coat also offers a wonderful end result.
VIDEO REVIEW – Benefit Roller Lash Mascara
Overall Mark: A
I would 100% recommend this product to a friend – however, I’d be sure to point out some of the ingredients listed as mildly hazardous. I think we should all be aware of the nature of any chemicals we’re putting on or in our bodies – particularly when it comes to our faces! However, the mascara certainly is an exceptional addition to your makeup bag. I think using it in moderation and being mindful of the ingredients will be my Roller Lash mantra moving forward.
